I have a piece in the upcoming issue of the New Republic. The piece takes a look at genial presidential candidate Mike Huckabee’s feuds with the Arkansas press corps during his time as Lt. Governor and Governor. In the mid-1990s, Huckabee wrote a series of scathing private letters to Max Brantley, the editor of the Little Rock-based alternative weekly, the Arkansas Times. “You’ve really disguised your intentions about as effectively as trying to hide Dolly Parton in a 32AA bra,” Huckabee excoriated Brantley in one memorable exchange. And Brantley was not alone.
